THINK About Such Things

 Audiological Argument

My son Jared coined the term "Audiological" to describe what we had been discussing together...how music points to God. The more we talked, the more we shared the ideas with others, the more we discovered about the cumulative case that music presents as an argument for God. Music is highly designed, impacts people on multiple levels, arrives to our ears and brain via a complex and finely tuned biological system, and produces a powerful first-person conscious experience. In addition, in order to create highly designed and beautiful music, composers must make use of pre-existing design features in the universe such as the harmonic series, tone, pitch, rhythm, phrase, and etc. These universals often display complex and mathematical design features themselves.

So, the two of us embarked upon a study project and produced the following paper on our findings. There is far more to consider and far more to research...but in our view, music presents a very powerful case for the existence of God in a number of different ways. The paper linked below explores 6 aspects of the broader cumulative case for God where music is especially pertinent.
